Curtain close

At the end of your life what do you really care about?

Death is an undeniable equalizer amongst humanity. No matter what you have or what you don’t, eventually you will die. It is one reality that you cannot escape.

If we spent our lives with death in mind, how would we spend our time?

Knowing that death is inescapable can cause a couple reactions - we can live in fear of it and miss out on living, or we can live in light of it and live more fully.

We hate the microscope that death puts on our delusions of control, but how much richer would our lives be if we used death to cause us to live more intentionally.

Who do you want to be when you die? How do you want to be remembered for treating others? What goals do you care about pursuing? How important is ________ really? Do you want to spend more time getting things done or investing in people? What is going to matter when your life ends?

Death should cause us to pause and reflect on how we are choosing to live. There isn’t an excuse to wait to have the character you want to have. It may take time for others to fully come to see that, but there isn’t a good excuse to procrastinate on who you want to be.

Do you want to be dependable? You might need to sacrifice your desires to be more responsible.

Do you want to be less stressed? You might need to let go of your perfectionism.

Do you want to be more joyful? You might need to make tough choices about how you react when life isn’t going your way.

Do you want to be more present? You might need to put your phone away more often.

You aren’t in control of your circumstances, but you are in control of how you choose to respond and live. Own your life. Prioritize what matters. You don’t live forever.

(at least not on earth…)
