bye 23

Birthdays are always a time of reflection for me. I love reflecting on the past year and identifying areas of growth. I think it is important to pause and look back at the lessons God has taught you.

…and boy did he teach me a lot in year 23.

So with that, here are 23 things I learned at 23:

  1. God is far more powerful than we give Him credit for. He will put you in the exact situations He wants.

  2. Savor each stage. We don’t get these seasons back.

  3. Be friends with yourself. Cheesy? Sure, but you’re always going to be stuck with yourself.

  4. If you don’t like the person you are: change. You aren’t stuck continuing in patterns that aren’t the person you are called to be.

  5. Do it when you don’t feel like it: devotions, listening to worship, moving your body, chores. That is the most important time to do it.

  6. Change isn’t all bad.

  7. Grief can look a lot of different ways.

  8. Taking a break isn’t a sin.

  9. Keep closest to you the people who share the same values and desire for growth.

  10. Moving your body is essential, but it should also be fun.

  11. It’s okay to start to like things you didn’t before. You’re an ever-evolving version of yourself, changing interests doesn’t mean you’re inconsistent, it means you’re growing.

  12. Have the hard conversations. It won’t always have the result you want, but you still need to do it.

  13. Who you spend your time with will directly impact who you are.

  14. Find mentors.

  15. Try new things.

  16. Devotions aren’t a chore, they’re a relationship.

  17. Spend less time on screens.

  18. Learning how your brain works is so important. Work with your brain.

  19. Your body is going to change a million different ways over the course of your life. That’s okay.

  20. Different relationships fall into different categories. Not everyone will be equipped to handle some of your deeper thoughts and that’s okay. You can have friends just for fun.

  21. Being mindful of the content you consume includes books. Just because it isn’t on a screen doesn’t mean it is uplifting to you.

  22. It’s okay to try something that you’re bad at.

  23. You are far more of a sinner than you will ever realize…and God’s grace is far more abundant than your sin.
