Holidays

Most people feel an overwhelming excitement surrounding the holidays. There is such beauty in the joy that these seasons offer and all the precious opportunities to savor life.

For others, holidays can feel like a battle of triggers.

I don’t think we always see the people who live with great pain surrounding holidays. This isn’t to be harsh, more so to bring a little compassion that we might not naturally see into how we view holidays.

The times in colleges where professors announce how close it is to everyone going home are followed by students who go off in private and cry.

The times where everyone is excitedly discussing the family they are going to see fill others with a sinking feeling of grief in their hearts.

The times where there is such an emphasize on the good foods to eat cause friends to skip events or struggle with restricting all day so that what you see is them eating.

Holidays are not always times of celebration for everyone.

If you are feeling lost in the waves of emotions the holidays bring with them my heart grieves with you. That kind of pain can feel so isolating.

Within the hope of the gospel there is so much comfort to be found.

No, the Bible may not specifically address holidays, but it is an outpouring of God’s heart to his broken children. In the midst of a season where you may feel overlooked and missed, God reassures that He sees you. He never misses the pain you are experiencing. He never fails to grieve with you.

There is so much gentleness found in the comfort of the Lord. Holidays are really just days. They may bring extra pain, but they too will pass. What will never cease is the intimately precious love of the Lord.
