hosea

Recently, I have been reading Hosea for my morning devotions. It is the first time I have read it through since probably middle school, and needless to say I am finding it more meaningful this time around.

I have felt particularly humbled reflecting on the weight of my sin. I personally struggle at times with sitting with the uncomfortable things in life. Especially areas where I am at fault, I often struggle to handle them in a healthy and biblical manner.

I want to be clear — we are not called to sit in shame. As redeemed Christians we are covered by the righteousness of Christ. We are daily walking through the process of sanctification.

Because of grace, we are free from shame.

Shame led Adam and Eve to hide from the Lord.

Repentance should send us running to Him.

Recognizing the weight of your sin should bring joy at the goodness of the Lord. Please don’t hear this and let shame win out and push you away from God’s mercy. As someone who has struggled greatly with shame, I know deeply the hold it can have on a person. But as we grow as Christians, we should also learn how to handle the delicate topics. Instead of running from acknowledging my faults for fear of shame, grace should embolden me to be able to bravely face it, to see the weight of my sin, and to see the power of the One who makes me clean again.

Minimizing our sin can minimize our grasp of the goodness of God. His might is not something small. Our sin may be great, but He is always greater.
